Organizational history:
Strandberg Mines, Inc., originally named Strandberg and Sons, Inc., was formed in 1937 by David Strandberg. Strandberg had originally formed the Strandberg-Johnson Mining Co. at Flat Creek Mine in 1910, which ceased operation around 1915. Strandberg Mines’ mining activities included prospecting, mining, milling, and smelting, primarily in Alaska. The company carried out mining operations in Eureka, Folger, Prospect Creek, Bishop Creek, Candle, Bonanza Creek, and Ruby. Strandberg Mines, Inc. ceased operation in the early 1960s.

Collection description:
The collection consists of records relating to the business operations of Strandberg and Sons, Inc. and Strandberg Mines, Inc., as well as an expense ledger for the Strandberg-Johnson Mining Co. A majority of the records relate to the company’s final years of operation. The collection includes administrative records, equipment inventories, financial records, correspondence, and annotated maps. The collection includes records that were created prior to the formation of Strandberg and Sons, Inc.

Custodial history: The Strandberg-Johnson Mining Co. expense ledgers were transferred to Archives and Special Collections by Alaska and Polar Regions Collections and Archives at the University of Alaska Fairbanks in 2006.

Acquisition note: The collection was donated to Archives and Special Collections by Olga Doheny and Odin Strandberg. A deed of gift was signed by Odin Strandberg in 1997.

Processing information: This collection was arranged and described by Kathy Hertel in 2000. The guide to the collection was converted to current standard and series combined by Veronica Denison in 2016.
