Biographical note:
Bruce Melzer is a former reporter and News Director for KSKA, the public radio station in Anchorage. He later worked as a reporter for the Anchorage Daily News.

Collection description:
The collection consists of cassette tapes of oral history interviews conducted by Bruce Melzer for stories on KSKA and in the Anchorage Daily News. The majority of the interviews were recorded for a radio series on Black History in Anchorage, which aired on KSKA in 1982 or 1983. Interviewees for the stories include Frank Austin, Pat Berkeley, Ocea Mae Curry, Joe Jackson, Zelmer Lawrence, and Richard Watts. There is also a 1985 interview with Dick Sanchez, founder and owner of Arctic Roadrunner, a burger restaurant in Anchorage. The collection includes interviews with Norma Hoyt and Edward McElligott for a KSKA story about grocery stores in Anchorage. Finally, the collection includes two tapes of interviews for an Anchorage Daily News story on Chuck West, founder of Alaska tourism company, Westours.
