Join us for “Reel Life Alaska: Films from UAA Archives & Special Collections,” a showing of archival film footage from our collections!
WHEN: 7pm – Thursday October 18, 2012
WHERE: UAA/APU Consortium Library, Room 307
WHAT: We will be opening up our film collection and screening some choice gems, including:
- Edwin G. Beu, Jr.’s classic 1958 promotional film for Alaska tourism, “A Look at Alaska”
- Footage from nurse Elinor Delight Gregg’s 1936 trip with the Bureau of Indian Affairs to Nome, Kivalina, and other locations
- “The Ascent of Great Sitkin,” a 1949 film made by anthropologist and explorer Ted Bank documenting his climb of the Great Sitkin Volcano in the Aleutian Islands with the University of Michigan Expedition
- Footage from the 1964 Alaska Earthquake, the Finley-Church Expedition to Alaska in 1926, home movies documenting homesteading, skiing, and other activities in Alaska in the 1940s and 1950s, and other films to be announced!
