And we continue on, looking at the entries to Eye of the Beholder II from 2009.

Usually I end up writing some sort of exhibit summary, but this time I decided to do an entry of my own. So here’s mine, from the point of view of, well, I’ll let my entry speak for itself and you can decide for yourself.
I’m not a camper. My idea of roughing it is staying at a chain motel out by the airport. But…
I am a kitchen geek. I’ve always wanted to make marshmallows from scratch. Not because I particularly like marshmallows, but just because I like the concept. I once spent an entire day washing whole wheat flour by hand to make seitan (wheat gluten—used as a basis for some vegetarian meat substitutes) just to figure out what it looked, felt, and tasted like and to say that I’d done it. I own a pizzelle iron. I have a garlic peeler. And a spaetzle maker (which IS different from a potato ricer). And I use all of them.
I see this picture and I want to be there, doing what the two guys in front are doing. Because how cool would it be to be able to cook using volcanic heat? I might not be prepared to eat the results, but who cares? It’s the kitchen geek factor at work.
It would be nice to figure out a way to do this without having to hike for miles, carry in any water I might need, breathe the fumes, worry about getting ash in my contact lenses, go for days without a shower, and sleep on the ground. And don’t even get me started on the lavatory facilities. I think the kitchen geekdom will have to give way to other considerations this time. Maybe I can go make those marshmallows instead.
