Organizational history:
The Matanuska Valley Bank was first opened in Palmer in 1947. In 1952 the bank was purchased by Robert Baker and Associates. As of 1960, the directors included Robert A. Baker, Harry J. Hill, Keith M. Lesh, Ken C. Britt, Asa L. Martin, William D. Renfro, and Albert C. Swalling of Anchorage, and Richard M. Jones of Palmer. Bank officers in 1960 were Robert Baker, president and chairman of the board of directors; Harry J. Hill, board vice-chairman; Richard Jones, vice president and cashier; William Renfro, vice-president; Frank M. Reed, vice-president; Keith Lesh, secretary; and Kyle I. Turner, assistant cashier. The bank opened a branch office in Anchorage in 1960.

Collection description:
The collection consists of an accounts ledger, daily statements of condition, and a report of a board of directors’ examination of the Matanuska Valley Bank. The collection is not a complete set of records for the bank and gaps in chronological records occur.
