Administrative history: 
The U.S. Congress founded the national Area Health Education Center (AHEC) Program in 1971 under the Health Resources and Service Administration. The Alaskan AHEC program was established at the University of Alaska Anchorage in 2005 through the School of Nursing.

Agency functions:
The mission of the Area Health Education Center Program is to provide high quality healthcare training and to maintain a strong health workforce throughout Alaska. The program office is located in the UAA Alaska Center for Rural Health and Health Workforce, and the AHEC maintains six regional centers across the state of Alaska. These are in Nome (Northwest), Fairbanks (Interior), Bethel (Yukon-Kuskokwim), Anchorage (Southcentral and Southwest), and Juneau (Southeast).

This collection contains two promotional pamphlets for the Alaska Area Health Education Center Program and the resources to which it provides access.
