Welcome to Interns
We have two History Dept interns this spring. Welcome to Connor! He’s off to a great start with his creation of the new topic guide, Christianity in Alaska. And welcome also to Hannah: who is starting the description on a new collection of the records of the Alaska Mountain Rescue Group.
Renovations:
It’s been a bit of up and down this month. Most of the shelving was installed. However we also learned a few things that will delay our return into the space. The shelves require some additional seismic bracing and the sprinkler system needs to be upgraded. Both of those will delay the return of materials into our space until remediating projects are completed. We don’t currently have an estimated time to completion, unfortunately.

HMC-1441: Charles Gilbert Palmer papers. A diary and photographs of a man who traveled to Dawson in 1897 and was in Nome by 1900.
HMC-1442: Walston family slides. Slides of a family in Anchorage and a pilot for Reeve Aleutian Airways circa 1959-1971.
HMC-1443-AHS: Unidentified photographer Alaska photographs; 1937. 0.01 cubic feet and 410 MB. Photographs taken on a trip to Alaska.
HMC-1444: H.C. Curtis slides and photographs. Slides and photographs depicting Anchorage, Alabama, and the Black Student Achievement Program at West High School circa 1990.
HMC-1445-AHS: Herbert T. Johnson photographs and menus; 1942-1944. 0.01 cubic feet. Photographs of a captain in the 138th Infantry, who was stationed in Cordova and Nome during World War II.
HMC-1446: Hector Manuel Hau Ortega photographs; 1964-1966. 0.02 cubic feet. Photographs of a serviceman stationed at Fort Richardson.
HMC-1447: Anchorage Audubon Society records; 1972-2004. 6.9 cubic feet and 53.0 MB. Records of an organization promoting bird conservation.
HMC-1448: Jack Gargan photographs; undated, 1964, 1989. 0.25 cubic feet. Photographs of Valdez, Seldovia, and other unidentified coastal cities, Anchorage after the 1964 earthquake, and the Exxon Valdez oil spill in Prince William Sound.
HMC-1449: Charles R. Wackwitz journal; 1919-1938. 0.02 cubic feet. Compositional journal of a miner at the Wyoming Mine near Fairbanks.
EPH-0539: 6th Annual Kenai Peninsula Arts and Crafts Show pamphlet; 1965. A pamphlet with the schedule of events, names of contestants, and asking prices for displayed art.
EPH-0550: Wildwood Boarding School records; 1972-1973. 0.02 cubic feet. Use restrictions apply. A student handbook and student list from the Wildwood Boarding School near Kenai.
EPH-0551: Palmer women’s suffrage march photographs; 1995. Color photographs from a commemorative women’s suffrage march through Palmer.
Additional description added:
HMC-0579: Alaska Public Health Association records; 1969-2001. Records of an organization dedicated to public health issues in Alaska. Folder descriptions were added by Fabiola Lugo-Vazquez, a Community Engaged Student Assistant with the College of Health Division of Population Health Sciences.
HMC-0361: James and Marie McDowell papers; 1946-1974. Papers of a couple who ran The Cook Inlet Courier. Preservation work was completed and more biographical information and a container list were added.
