In June 1976 the Office of Publications and Information became the Office of Public Affairs. It had three divisions at that time: information services, publication services, and promotion services.

The Office of Public Affairs served as the public relations unit for the University of Alaska, Anchorage.

Series description:
The newsletter was started in December 1973 as the Faculty and Staff Newsletter. It was called the Regional News for a few issues and by the end of January 1974 had been named Southcentral Soundings. Initially published by an office known as the UAA News Service, by the fall of 1974 it was published by the Office of Publications and Information. Starting in fall 1976, it was published by the Office of Public Affairs. The Soundings was mostly issued on a weekly basis during the fall and spring semesters. It includes administrative announcements, event listings, personnel announcements, and other informational articles related to university operations.
