Collection description:
The collection consists of a scrapbook and loose materials pertaining to correctional facilities in Alaska. The scrapbook contains newspaper clippings dated 1963 to 1976 on topics related to correctional facilities, and the criminal justice system more broadly. Topics of the articles include high profile crimes in Alaska; correctional facility conditions; riots at the state jail in Anchorage; correctional center escapes; the construction of the Southcentral Regional Correctional Center in Eagle River; and personnel changes. The scrapbook also includes before and after photographs of a 1967, riot at the Anchorage state jail and a signed photograph of Governor Keith Miller. Loose items include a program for the dedication of the Southeast Regional Correctional Center; photographs of employees at an unidentified correctional facility; transparencies of floor plans of an unidentified facility; and additional clippings related to correctional facility conditions.
