Organizational history:
The Anchorage federal jail opened on April 1, 1954 on the same property as the Federal Building in downtown Anchorage.
Collection description:
The collection consists of a typewritten article about the opening of the jail, as well as photographs of construction, the jail’s exterior, and interior spaces, including the infirmary, the kitchen, and a dormitory. There are also several photocopied images of the building, as well as a color photograph of several officers.
Arrangement: The collection remains in the order in which it arrived at the Archives. For preservation purposes, the scrapbook pages have been removed from the original binder and placed in archival plastic sleeves.
