Biographical note:
Patrick Tierney emigrated from Ireland to Canada, where he worked as a blacksmith. He later moved to Alaska, where he found employment in mining and as the General Superintendent of the 5010th Installation Squadron at Eielson Air Force Base in Fairbanks. After leaving Alaska , he worked for the Army Corps of Engineers in Virginia.
Collection description:
The collection consists of a photograph album containing original and commercial photographs, primarily of Alaska and Western Canada. Subjects of the photographs include construction, military, or mining camps; military installations; Quonset huts; mining equipment; Regina Hotel; groups engaged in recreation, like fishing, rowing a boat, and having picnics; wildlife; the Standard Oil Company Canol Project office; Eielson Air Force Base staff; Twelvemile Summit; Circle Springs Trading Co.; construction; and the Eielson Air Force Base fire department. Additionally, the album contains some photographs from locations outside Alaska and Canada, including San Francisco, Arizona, and San Francisco.
