Collection description:
This collection contains records documenting sites (or proposed sites) for fish traps and set nets in Alaskan waters from circa 1932-1934. There are notes with coordinates and descriptions of fish trap locations; a 1932 letter from the War Department with instructions on how to submit a fish trap permit application; diagrams of floating fish traps; and scaled maps indicating the proposed or existing locations for fish traps. Locations described include Cordova Bay, Stepovak Bay, and around Unimak, Paul, Uganik, Kodiak, Korovin, Popof, Noyes, San Fernando, and Heceta Islands. Named fishing companies include the Litnik Fish Co., Olsen Fish Co., Nagai Fish Co., Korovin Set-Netters Association, Popof Set-Net Co., Helene R. Mellick, Alaska Peninsula Packing Co., Bear Fish Co., D.G. Graham, Oltar Hofstad, Korovin Fishing and Canning Co., North Coast Fisheries Inc., Shelikof Fishing Co., and the Uyak Fishing and Packing Co.
