Organizational history:
The Alaska Mountain Rescue Group (AMRG) is a nonprofit volunteer search and rescue (SAR) organization in Anchorage, Alaska that was founded in 1960. The AMRG conducts emergency SAR missions under the direction of the Alaska State Troopers and performs an average of 15 missions annually. The group has two missions, as listed on their website: search and rescue and public awareness. They pursue these missions by providing ground search, first aid, and avalanche responses as well as creating presentations and demonstrations to ensure safety for other mountaineering groups.  

Collection description: 
The collection includes materials telling the story of the AMRG and their pursuit of their two mission statements, SAR and public awareness. This documentation includes records from various conferences they held, extensive correspondence, news clippings, standards of conduct, and maps with SAR plans. There are also photographs, videos, CDs, and patches related to the nonprofit’s history, rescues, and conferences. There are some documents detailing death or near-death experiences due to avalanches.
