Organizational history:
The Alaska Women’s Political Caucus, abbreviated AWPC or AkWPC, was an organization aimed at increasing the participation of women in the political process, increase the number of feminist women elected or appointed to office, to promote equality for women, and to further issues affecting women and children. The organization incorporated in 1991. In 2011, the organization changed its name to Alaska Women for Political Action.
Collection description:
The collection consists of documents, photographs, audiocassettes, and video recordings relating to the activities of Alaska Women’s Political Caucus. The documents include meeting minutes and agendas, memoranda, reports, Equal Times newsletter, candidate questionnaires, by-laws, leadership documents, and correspondence. The photographs were taken at the 1984 APWC conference and the 1985 Conference on Mayors. The audiocassettes consist of recordings of the 1982 Alaska Women’s Political Skills conference, as well as a National Women’s Political Conference PSA. The video includes “Win with Women” produced by the National Women’s Political Caucus, “Women in Politics” from Listening to America, and several Beta and U-Matic tapes labeled “Alice in Blunderland.”
