Biographical note:
Frank Huber was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and grew up with a passion for the outdoors. In 1955, after serving in the Korean War, he moved to Alaska with his wife, Nancy, and son, Michael. In Alaska, he worked in civil engineering and public works and had two more children, Carole and Jeff. Huber enjoyed spending time in the outdoors hunting and fishing. An avid photographer, his photographs were published in magazines and textbooks. He retired to Hawaii and passed away in March 2018.

Collection description:
The collection consists of color slides taken by Francis J. Huber in Alaska and elsewhere. Subjects of the slides include animals, plants, scenery, hot air balloons, fishing, hunting, outdoor activities, sports, Fur Rendezvous, sled dog racing, diving, boating, ice carving, and people. Locations represented in the photographs include Anchorage, Seward, Valdez, Prudhoe Bay, Denali National Park and Preserve, and other locations in Alaska, as well as Hawaii, the Caribbean, Mexico, Texas, Honduras, South America, Florida, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, New Mexico, Costa Rica, Wyoming, Arizona, and Australia.

Arrangement: The collection is arranged by subject using Huber’s original filing system and folder titles. Folders that were not part of the two letter filing systems are arranged alphabetically by subject following the slides that are organized using Huber’s filing system.

Acquisition note: The collection was donated to the Archives by Francis Huber and his son and daughter-in-law Jeffrey and Shannon Huber in 2018. A deed of gift was signed by Jeffrey Huber, acting as power of attorney for Francis Huber.
