Fernand L. “Fern” Chandonnet was born March 15, 1942 in Lowell, Massachusets. He married Ann Fox Chandonnet in 1966. He moved to Anchorage in 1973, after being a radio station manager in San Francisco. From 1973 to 1998, Fern was a radio announcer and programmer at KHAR and KENI in Anchorage. He worked for the Anchorage Times newspaper as a copy editor from 1989 to 1992. In 1988, Fern ran for the Alaska state senate as a Democrat but was not elected. Ann and Fern moved to Juneau in 1999, and from 1999-2002, he worked at Juneau Empire newspaper as editor.
The collection contains biographical information about Fern Chandonnet, correspondence, papers related to Alaska state senate campaign, clippings of articles written about Chandonnet, drafts and published writings, Juneau Empire spoof newspapers, and photographs.
