Biographical note:
Glenn Crawford was born in Ohio in 1930. He graduated from the Ohio State University medical school around 1956. He then joined the United States Native Health Service and was sent to work in Bethel, Alaska.
June Crawford was born in England in 1933. She moved to the United States and began working as a nurse for the United States Health Service. She was also sent to Bethel, which was how she met Glenn.
After their service in Bethel, Glenn and June moved to Anchorage, Alaska. The Health Service occasionally sent Glenn to various places in Alaska during his career. Their first home and doctor’s office was 203 Fireweed Lane. Around 1962 the family moved to 520 N Street but continued to use the Fireweed Lane property to see patients. Around 1979, the couple and their children moved to Washington. Glenn Crawford died in 1992.
Collection description:
The collection contains photographs taken by Glenn and June Crawford. Subjects of the photographs include Chitina, people in Alaska, Bethel, Russian Mission, Chevak, Dillingham, Fairbanks and travelling to Fairbanks, Mountain Village, Nome, Seward, St. Mary’s, Alaska statehood ceremony and bonfire, and Tanana.
Arrangement: The collection is arranged in the order in which it arrived at the Archives.

Acquisition note: This collection was donated to the Alaska Historical Society in 2016 by Roger Crawford, son of Glenn and June Crawford. The Historical Society retains ownership of the collection and placed it on deposit in Archives and Special Collections in 2017. A deed of gift was signed by Roger Crawford in 2017.
