Cyrano’s, as a cultural entity, was established in late 1987 by Jerry and Sandy Harper. Cyrano’s Bookstore and Café specialized in theatre related publications and acted as an arts and entertainment center, cinema, and meeting place. In 1992, Cyrano’s expanded their activities to include theater productions under the banner of the Eccentric Theatre Company. In 1995, the organization renamed themselves the Cyrano’s Off Center Playhouse and is now known as Cyrano’s Theatre Company. Throughout Cyrano’s history, the organization has been honored with numerous awards and accolades. Examples include being regularly voted “Best Live Theater” in Anchorage by Play readers, recipient of Mayor’s Arts Organization Award, “Best Live Theatre” in Anchorag by Anchorage Daily News and Anchorage Press readers, was a finalist in the Chamber of Commerce Goldpan Awards in 1997 and Cyrano’s was awarded the Governor’s Arts Award.
The collection contains records created by Cyrano’s Theater Company. A majority of the records relate to Cyrano’s theater productions. These records include programs, annotated scripts, photographs, posters, news reports, audiovisual recordings of plays and promos, and financial records.
Arrangement: Paper records retain the order in which they arrived to the archives. Production programs are in alphabetical order. Floppy disks, zip disks, CDs, and DVDs are organized by format and content type.
