Biographical note:
Janie Leask is Haida-Tsimshian and Irish-German and was raised in both Metlakatla and Anchorage. Ms. Leask spent fifteen years with the Alaska Federation of Natives starting in 1974, as the President of AFN from 1983 to 1989.

Collection description:
The collection contains Janie Leask’s files subject files regarding the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA), clippings of her regular column in the Anchorage Times, subject files on the Alaska Federation of Natives, and the texts of speeches she delivered.

Arrangement: The files were retained in the same order in which they arrived at the Archives. Materials are generally grouped by topic or type of record.
