Collection summary: Records of a non-profit organization that provides programs supporting equality for the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender community and its allies.
In 1977, the Alaska Gay Community Center (AGCC) was incorporated as nonprofit organization. Throughout the years the organization has changed gone through a series of name changes. In 1982, the organization decided to change its name to the Alaska Gay and Lesbian Community Center (AGLCC). In an attempt to update the State of Alaska on the name change, the organization discovered that they were no longer a legal non-profit entity. In May of 1982 they were involuntarily dissolved. In August 1982, they were incorporated as the Alaska Gay and Lesbian Resource Center (AGLRC). On September 12, 1983 the general membership approved the name change to Identity: The Center for Sexual Minorities, Inc., and their new Articles of Incorporation and bylaws. The organization is currently named Indentity, Inc..
AGCC was developed to provide programs supporting the equality for the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender community and its allies. As AGCC evolved into Identity Inc., the organization has sustained and expanded their activities. Examples of these programs and services include a helpline; a center for the GLBTA community; the Names Project Quilt; Pride Conference that features national speakers, workshops, and socials; Anchorage PrideFest; and, the publication of newsletters, such as the NorthView.
The collection contains Board of Directors’ records, Names Project Quilt Anchorage records, Pride Conference records, Pridefest records, financial notes. The types of records that can be found in these records are meeting agendas and minutes, correspondence, flyers, conference programs, and planning documents.
Arrangement: The collection has been divided into the following series by project or record type:
Series 1: Board of Directors records; 1977-2009.
Series 2: Names Project Quilt Anchorage records; 1989.
Series 3: Alaska Pride Conference records; 1994-2001.
Series 4: Anchorage Pridefest records; 1994-2006.
Series 5: Financial notes; undated.
Series 6: NorthView newsletters; 1980-2013

Processing information: This collection was described by Mariecris Gatlabayan in 2013. A majority of the collection came to the archives in binders. Materials were placed in acidfree folders and retain the order in which they were
Series 1: Board of Directors records; 1977-2009. 1.07 cubic feet. The contains meeting agendas, meeting minutes, and materials referenced or discussed during the meeting. The materials include flyers, correspondence, and budget reports.

Series 2: Names Project Quilt Anchorage records; 1989. 0.02 cubic feet. This series contains the administrative records produced while planning and implementing Names Project Anchorage, a display of 600 panels of the Names Project Quilt that commemorates the life one person who had died of AIDS. Records include blank donation forms, correspondence, and meeting minutes.
