The Wildflower Garden Club was founded by five members of the Anchorage Garden Club in December 1972. The founding members included Sally Karabelnikoff, Kathy Weltzin, Helen Kola, Gerry McCormick, and Dorothy Ann Zappa. The club was originally formed in order to have a neighborhood group in the Muldoon area of Anchorage which would meet during the day. The Wildflower Garden Club emphasizes workshop activity, practical gardening, the sharing of talents, educating junior gardeners, and enjoying flowers by becoming more knowledgeable by design. The club plans yearly wildflower identification walks and shares gardening and germination tips and wild seeds with others. The club’s projects include the Wildflower Trail at the Alaska Botanical Garden and awarding scholarships to young people majoring in a plant related field.
The collection contains scrapbooks and yearbooks created by the Wildflower Garden Club. Scrapbooks range from 1973-2010 and contain photographs, flyers, and articles about Wildflower Garden Club events and members.
