Collection description:

This collection contains one photograph album, as well as loose photographs, mostly documenting Vincent E. Hagen’s time in Alaska as a member of the 971st Signal Service Company from circa 1943-1945.  These photographs depict Hagen and other servicemen laying land lines and poles for cables throughout Alaska, views of Fairbanks, Nome, and other unidentified locations in Alaska, barracks buildings, and Alaska Natives, among other subjects.  There are also some photographs of Hagen in Washington state prior to his arrival in Alaska and at an event involving Chapter 6 of the Disabled Veterans of America in Salem, Oregon in 1962.  The inside cover of the album is inscribed in Hagen’s handwriting with a list of places he lived and served in Alaska from 1943-1945.  The collection also contains a typescript special order for Hagen from the Signal Corps dated June 1945 and a list of military awards given to Hagen in August 1944.
