Biographical note:

Norman Rokeberg was born in Seattle, Washington, in 1943. He graduated from Anchorage High School in 1961, and served in the U.S. Army in Europe from 1964 to 1966. He later attended Willamette University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in political science in 1971. After returning to Anchorage, he continued his business career, begun in 1967, as a commercial real estate broker and small business owner. In 1994, he was elected to the Alaska State House of Representatives from Anchorage, and was reelected five times. During his legislative career, he chaired the following committees: Special Committee on Oil and Gas (1995-1996), Labor and Commerce (1997-2000), Judiciary (2001-2002), and Rules (2003-2006). He has also been active as a member of several political and governmental councils, assemblies, boards and commissions, as well as participating in numerous service and community organizations.

Collection description:

The collection consists of the legislative papers of Representative Norman Rokeberg of Anchorage. The collection is divided into two series: bill files and legislative accomplishments books. The bill files typically contain bill histories, drafts, vote tallies, fiscal notes, sponsor statements, constituent correspondence, committee minutes, floor speeches, press articles, and research materials. Most of the files concern house bills, but also include a few senate bills, resolutions, and concurrent resolutions. The legislative accomplishments books refer to individual legislative sessions or legislatures, and generally are divided into topical sections.

Arrangement: The bill files are grouped chronologically by legislative session, in bill number order thereunder. The legislative accomplishments books are arranged in chronological order.
