Biographical note:
The soldier who created this photograph album was stationed at Fort Richardson, Anchorage, Alaska, and Fort Ray, Sitka, Alaska, from 1942 to 1944. The soldier refers to himself in the album as “Bob.” He appears to have been a member of the Alaska Defense Command, Quartermaster Section, stationed at Fort Richardson, and the 351st Quartermaster Company, stationed at Fort Ray in Sitka.

Collection description:
The collection consists of the World War II era photograph album of an enlisted soldier in the 351st Quartermaster Company in Alaska. The album contains: 411 black and white prints. Subjects of the photographs include: “Bob” and fellow quartermaster soldiers; a baseball game played at an Anchorage baseball field in 1942; sled dogs and soldiers skiing at Mount McKinley National Park in 1943; buildings at Fort Richardson including: base and air base chapels, hospital, quartermaster warehouses, aircraft hangar, service club, post exchange, and theater; “Bob” and fellow soldiers at La Jolle, California; soldiers and scenery in and around Fort Ray and Sitka in 1944; 351st Quartermaster Company soldiers in formation, drilling, and parading in review; a championship softball game played in 1944; softball games played by the quartermaster team; workers at the quartermaster laundry; the Trading Post at the Matanuska Colony in Palmer; and the rifle range at Fort Richardson. Soldiers identified in the album include: Donald Tranbarger, Walter Fletcher, and Glen Russell.

Arrangement: The collection retains the order in which it arrived at the Archives.
