Collection description:
The collection consists of color slides, primarily taken by Charlotte E. Mauk during her travels in Alaska, 1944-1963.  There is also a list of slide numbers for a slide show given by Mauk on September 13, 1961, and some cards with notes on birds and other animals. Most of the slides are numbered and identified.  Slides of her early travels in Alaska in 1944, 1945, and 1955 depict the Ketchikan and Matanuska Valley areas. The slides from Mauk’s trip to Alaska in 1961 include images of Fairbanks, Fort Yukon, the Sheenjek River, camping at Lobo Lake with Olaus and Margaret Murie, Mount McKinley National Park, Camp Denali, and various other landscape views and wildflowers. There are also slides from Mauk’s 1963 trip to Alaska, which include images of the Mendenhall, Lamplugh, Grand Pacific, and Reid Glaciers. There are also some undated slides depicting a trip to Fairbanks, Mount McKinley National Park, and the Palmer area, as well as slides from 1955 taken on a trip to Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming and slides taken at an unidentified location in 1972.  The collection also contains slides by other photographers, including Joe Hankins and Russell H. Varian, which depict Alaska wildlife and glaciers, as well as slides of wildlife drawings by Olaus J. Murie.
