Biographical note: Geneva Starrett was a woman from Athol, Massachusetts, who took a tour in 1938 beginning in Boston to the Southwestern and Western states, and Alaska.

Collection description: The collection contains a photograph album and papers of Geneva Starrett relating to her tour of Alaska, and the Southwestern and Western states.

The collection includes: a photograph album with original black and white prints, black and white and color photo post cards, and an anecdotal map of Alaska glued onto the inside cover; a letter to her parents detailing some of her experiences; a cash book comprising journal entries, an expense log, and an address list of people she met on her trip; and an Alaska Steamship Company passenger list.

Subjects of the original 1938 photographs include: detailed scenes of the Grand Canyon; Redwood forest, Yosemite, Mt. Shasta, Seattle and Mt. Rainier. Areas around Alaska include: Ketchikan, Juneau, Mendenhall Glacier, Valdez, Columbia Glacier, the Canadian Rockies, Lake Louise, and Banff Springs. Photos of Geneva Starrett, fellow travelers, and friends are interspersed throughout the album.  Photo post cards include: scenes from the Grand Canyon, Yosemite views, a lunch and dinner menu from Curry Camp, scenery and citiscapes of California, waterfalls and bridges in Oregon, buildings in Seattle, Washington, Alaska Steamship Co brochures, scenes of Juneau, Valdez and Seward, Alaska, and Victoria, Canada.  Original 1955-1962 black and white photographs include: scenes from a later trip to areas in Florida, Tennessee, New York, and Vermont.

Arrangement: Collection materials are arranged by document type. Photographs are arranged in the order and format they arrived within the original photo album.
