Collection summary: Trip album of an Oklahoma schoolteacher who toured the Western U.S. and Alaska.

Biographical note:
Mildred Fisher was from Sabetha, Kansas. She taught school in Anadarko, Oklahoma. In 1939, she took a trip across the Western United States and Alaska, accompanied by three fellow woman teachers. Her trip began with a motor tour from Arizona to Washington. In Seattle, the group boarded the S. S. Yukon, which cruised up the Inside Passage, stopping at Ketchikan, Juneau, Seward, Valdez and Columbia Glacier, before returning to Seattle with stops in Juneau, Petersburg and Wrangell. On their way home to Oklahoma from Seattle, the group drove down the Pacific Coast to San Francisco, then traveled east, visiting Yosemite, Grant National Park, Boulder Dam, the Grand Canyon, and Gallup, New Mexico.

Collection description:
The collection contains a 106 page photograph album and a 14 page typed carbon copy of a trip narrative. The photograph album includes typed descriptions and contains: 178 photographic images, travel brochures and memorabilia items. Subjects of the photographs include: Mildred Fisher with friends and relatives; the S. S. Yukon, Ketchikan, the Alaska Juneau Mine, Mendenhall Glacier, Auke Lake, fox farms, Kenai Lake, Columbia Glacier, and Port Ashton in Alaska; the S. S. Empress of Japan at Pacific Pier in Vancouver, B. C.; the San Juan Mountains; Shoshone Falls, Idaho; the Columbia River including Multnomah and Celilo Falls; the Battleship Oregon; the Oregon State Capitol in Salem; the Redwood Highway; Luther Burbank home and gardens, Santa Rosa, California; Yosemite, General Grant, Sequoia, Grand Canyon, and Mesa Verde National Parks; and Boulder Dam. Subject of the photo post cards include: the La Plata Mountains, Colorado; the Crown Willamette Paper Mills, Camas, Washington; Columbia River Highway, Mount Hood, the Oregon State Capitol in Salem, Myrtle trees in Coos County, and Haceta Head on the Oregon Coast Highway, in Oregon; the General Custer redwood in Big Tree Park, California; and Grand Canyon National Park.

Arrangement: The album materials are roughly grouped by geographic location.
