Collection description:
The collection consists of the contents of the tourist scrapbook of a trip from Seattle to Seward in August 1936. The collection contains a xerographic copy of the original scrapbook; memorabilia from the Alaska Steamship Company, the Alaska Railroad, and the Canadian Pacific travel system, as well as two photographs: an Ordway’s Photo Shop print of the S.S. Yukon at Columbia Glacier, and a glacier along the Alaska Railroad. The Alaska Steamship Company items include: a deck layout for the S.S. Yukon; a copy of the ship’s daily newsletter, The Yukon Trail; three menus; a 1936 sailings schedule; a passenger list for the ship’s sailing from Seattle on August 9, 1936; a booklet entitled, “My Alaska Cruise”; and a ticket envelope, passenger identification check, luggage tag, and luggage sticker. Alaska Railroad items include a travelogue booklet and a tourist brochure. Other memorabilia includes: a Pruell’s Gift Shop guide to Ketchikan, a sticker from The Nugget Shop in Juneau, a Gray Line ticket for a tour of Mendenhall Glacier and Auke Lake, a horse race ticket, a business card from a jewelry and curio shop in Juneau; a page of dried flowers; and a Canadian Pacific travel system booklet. Also included with the scrapbook is a commencement program for the University of Oregon from May 31, 1942.
