Biographical note:
Michael J. Hood obtained his bachelors degree from Arizona State University in 1972, and his master of arts and master of fine arts degrees from the University of New Orleans in 1975. He came to Alaska in 1976 to join the faculty of the University of Alaska Anchorage as a professor in the Department of Theater. Professor Hood has directed numerous plays for the university and other community and professional theater companies, and has received recognition for outstanding direction from the American College Theater Festival for his productions of What the Butler Saw, The Bat, and Rapier and Dagger. He has served as a member of the American Theater Association board of nominations, and as vice president of the Northwest Drama Conference. He is also a member of several organizations including the American Council on Quebec Studies, the Northwest Drama Conference, the Western Social Sciences Association, the Society of American Fight Directors, and the Association for Theater in Higher Education. His university service at the University of Alaska Anchorage has included serving as associate dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, president of the University Assembly, and chair of the Department of Theater.

Collection description:
This collection consists of papers relating to Michael Hood’s career at UAA, his theater activities at the University of Alaska Anchorage, and the construction of the new UAA Arts building. Included are production books from various UAA theater productions containing production scripts, rehearsal schedules, lists of props and costumes, audition sheets, and other similar types of records. There are also prompt scripts, which include actor movement, sound, and light cue prompt scripts from various UAA theater productions.

Series 1: Production books; 1979-1996
Series 2: Theatre department administrative records; 1981-1992

Separated materials: Bound prompt scripts were removed from the collection and placed in Rare Books. UAA production posters, programs, and shirts were moved to university records collections.
