Biographical note:
Ferrall Campbell was active in organized labor in Southeastern Alaska from the 1950s to the 1970s. He was secretary-treasurer of the Ketchikan Central Labor Council and, later, of the Juneau Central Labor Council. He was also secretary-treasurer of the Juneau Building Trades Council (1960-1962); secretary-treasurer of Labor’s Joint Committee on Legislative Action (1962); secretary of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 302; and a member of the Juneau Central Labor Council’s Committee on Political Education. Campbell was active in the Territorial (later State) Federation of Labor, serving as a vice president from Ketchikan and, later, from Juneau. He also served on a number of committees including the Rules and Constitution Committee (1958, 1970, 1972), the Legislative Committee (1964), and the Committee on Officers and Finance (1966).

Collection description:
The collection consists of records relating to Ferrall Campbell’s involvement in organized labor in Alaska. Included are constitutions and dues records of the Ketchikan Central Labor Council; constitution, monthly meeting minutes, Committee on Political Education meeting minutes, correspondence, mailing lists, and other records of the Juneau Central Labor Council; minutes, correspondence and bank records of the Juneau Building Trades Council; correspondence of Labor’s Joint Committee on Political Action (Juneau); constitutions, convention programs and minutes, photographs, and other records of the Alaska Territorial and Alaska State Federation of Labor; copies of labor agreements; and other records.

Acquisition note: The papers were presented to the Archives by Kevin Dougherty of the Alaska State District Council of Laborers in 1990.  Mr. Dougherty received the records from Jim Johnson of the Operating Engineers Union, Local 302, in southeast Alaska.
