Organizational history:
The People’s Vote Must Count Committee was organized by a group of Anchorage residents in 1981 to oppose the construction of a convention center on Block 42 in Downtown Anchorage and to uphold the 1965 Anchorage initiative, which dedicated that block to become a park. Members of the committee included Ruth Moulton, Avis Cupples, Lanie Fleischer, and Tom Leddy. The activities of the committee included circulating petitions, organizing fund raising and support meetings, and testifying before the Anchorage Assembly. The committee was also instrumental in getting Proposition 10, which supported the construction of a park on Block 42, placed on the ballot in 1981.
