Organizational history:
The Anchorage Film Society was a non-profit organization which sought to present distinguished motion picture films to the community each month. The organization was supported through the sale of season tickets. For a time, the Society was a department of the Anchorage Community Theater, in affiliation with Anchorage Community College. Later it was operated by a board of directors. In the beginning the films were shown in Sydney Lawrence Auditorium; later, they were shown in Anchorage Area high schools. The organization went out of existence in 1981 due to the lack of a viewing location.
Collection description:
The collection consists of the administrative, operational, and financial records of the Anchorage Film Society. The records include bylaws, minutes, reports, correspondence, schedules, programs, program ballots, a media survey, tickets, bank statements, canceled checks, expense receipts, and check stub books.
