Organizational history:
Alaska Hotel Properties, Inc., was formed in 1960 as the International Motor Hotel Corporation for the purpose of building and leasing motor hotels in Alaska. The corporation’s first project was the building of the Anchorage Travelodge, a motor lodge and restaurant, completed in 1964. Other corporate properties included the Haines Thunderbird, purchased in 1969, and the Juneau Hilton, the first Hilton in Alaska, which opened in January 1975. The corporation’s name was changed to Alaska Hotel Properties in 1968; in 1980 it became Alaska Diversified Resources and in 1984 the name was again changed to the Microfast Software Corporation. The corporation is one of the oldest publicly held stock companies in Alaska.

Collection description:
The collection consists of records documenting the history and operation of Alaska Hotel Properties, Inc. and the individual hotels within the corporation. The collection is divided into two sections: corporate records and hotel records. The corporate records include administrative, stockholder, and financial records. The Hotel records consist of administrative and operational records of the Haines Thunderbird, Anchorage Travelodge, and the Juneau Hilton. Those records include administrative, legal, and financial records.

Arrangement: The collection is divided into two parts: the corporate records and the records of individual hotels. The corporate records are arranged into series by record type, the hotel records are arranged by hotel, thereunder by record type.

In 2012, the guide was reformatted to meet current standards and the collection reboxed by Arlene Schmuland. Confidential records such as payroll records, duplicates, multiple copies of blank forms, and duplicative financial records were destroyed at that time under the terms of the deposit agreement.
