Biographical note:
Jennie M. Cornell (1908-1991) was from Middleton, Idaho. She collected commemorative items from world fairs and expositions.

Collection description:
The collection consists of Jennie M. Cornell’s collection of Alaska memorabilia from the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition, held in Seattle, Washington in1909, and other events in Alaska history.  Items from the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition include postcards, postage stamps, a coin, and a pin.  Items relating to the Alaska gold rush and post-gold rush development include maps, clippings, articles, and advertisements.  Items from the Alaska Purchase Centennial of 1967 include postage stamps, promotional flier, commemorative coin, and post cards.  The collection also includes items concerning the issuance of the amateur radio operators postage stamp in Anchorage in 1964, including a stamps, fliers, and an article; commemorative coins from Alaska’s birthday year in 1959 and the 1962 Alaska Boosters Association; postcards of Alaska Natives, Fairbanks, and Juneau; 1937 Alaska postage stamps; a handkerchief embroidered with a map of Alaska; and a packet of Alaskan wildflower seeds from the Baldwin Seed Co. of Alaska.

Processing information: This collection was originally described by Jeffrey A. Sinnott in 2005 as HMC-0729.  The guide was revised, the collection number changed, and the collection moved to the Ephemera collection by Megan K. Friedel in 2010.
