Biographical note:
Norma Purdy is from Pittsfield, Massachusetts. From 1952 to 1954, she was a U. S. Air Force nurse stationed at Elmendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage.

Collection description:
The collection consists of Norma Purdy’s Alaskan correspondence, color slides, and memorabilia items. The collection contains: color slides; photo post cards sent to her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Cassavant, of Pittsfield, Massachusetts; a letter received from Father John Wood, S. J. of McGrath; memorabilia related to Father Thomas Cunningham S.J.; a brochure on the Engineer Chapel at Fort Richardson; and an issue of the 5005th Hospital Group’s newsletter, The Prescription Pad. Subjects of the color slides include: Elmendorf Air Force Base; the Glenn Highway; Eklutna; the Alaska Railroad; Arctic Valley; Fort Richardson; Bethel; Anchorage; McKinley National Park; Nome; Kotzebue; the Mt. Spurr eruption; Richardson Highway; Ester Creek Gold Mine; Kodiak; Seward; glaciers (Portage, Matanuska, Worthington); and Juneau.

Arrangement: Collection materials are grouped by type: memorabilia, correspondence and postcards, and slides.
