Biographical note:
Henry Darrah served during the Civil war in the First Iowa Volunteers and lost an arm due to injuries incurred in the war. During the 1890s he came to Alaska and prospected for gold near Dalton Post, Yukon Territory. He later moved to Los Angeles and died in 1928.

Collection description:
The collection consists of a transcript of a letter sent by Henry Darrah to his daughter in 1898 and a Darrah family photograph from 1928 in Duluth, Minnesota.

Arrangement: The collection is in the order in which it was presented to the Archives.

Location of originals: Descendents of the Darrah family retain the original letter.
