Biographical note:
Archie Templeton was a resident of Milbank, South Dakota. He traveled to Alaska in 1898 with a group of men from that city. The party took the train from St. Paul, Minnesota, to Seattle, Washington, and then sailed on the S.S. Valencia to Valdez, Alaska.

Collection description:
The collection consists of photocopies of letters primarily written by Archie Templeton to his wife and daughter while he was traveling to and in Alaska from February through June 1898. They were written from St. Paul, Seattle, Valdez, Tasnina Lake, and the Klutina River. The last letter was written by Frank Hines in 1906 in Mastadon, Alaska; it was sent to Annie Templeton of Milbank, South Dakota.
