Biographical note:
Roy Suckling was born on September 21, 1922 in Niagara Falls, New York. He served in the Signal Corps on Shemya from August 1943 to December 1945. Suckling later moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, where he died in 1993.
Collection description:
The collection consists of 108 black and white prints, three color prints and negatives, and eight proof sheets, all of which were copied from the originals, as well as photocopies of descriptions written on the backs of some of the prints. Subjects of the photographs include aircraft, scenery on Shemya, individual shots of Suckling in an airplane, and a stage show.
Arrangement: The collection is arranged in no discernible order.

Custodial history: Roy Suckling’s original photographs were loaned to Hank Frese for copying. Frese’s copies were donated to the Archives as part of the Henry K. “Hank” Frese papers.
Acquisition note: The photographs were originally part of the Henry K. “Hank” Frese papers, presented to the archives on behalf of the Henry K. Frese Sr. family with the assistance of fellow Shemya veteran Dan Lange, in 2006.
Processing information: The photographs were removed from the Henry K. “Hank” Frese papers and described by Gwen Sieja in 2015.
Location of originals: The location of Suckling’s original photographs is unknown.
