Biographical note:
Bob Pendleton moved to Anchorage in 1962. A self-taught cinematographer and avid photographer, he worked for Stewart’s Photo Shop for a time. At the time of the earthquake in 1964, he was working as a meatcutter on Elmendorf Air Force Base. He died in 1988.

Collection description:
The collection consists of 160 slides of earthquake damage, primarily in the Anchorage area. 88 were taken by Bob Pendleton, the remaining 72 are commercial slides from Stewart’s Photo Shop.

Arrangement: The slides were retained in the order in which they arrived at the Archives. They are divided into two groupings: Bob Pendleton’s slides and the slides from Stewart’s Photo Shop.

Digitized copies: Bob Pendleton’s slides are digitized and made available online in the Alaska’s Digital Archives. For information about obtaining digital copies, please contact Archives and Special Collections.

Rights note: Archives holds copyright to the slides taken by Bob Pendleton. Copyright to materials created by Stewart’s Photo Shop is held by Stewart’s Photo Shop, with the Archives authorized to permit use on their behalf.
