Collection summary: The papers of a commercial real estate broker and member of the Alaska State House of Representatives from Anchorage.

Biographical note:
Hans Norman Rokeberg was born in Seattle, Washington, in 1943. He graduated from Anchorage High School in 1961, and served in the U.S. Army in Europe from 1964 to 1966. He later attended Willamette University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in political science in 1971. After returning to Anchorage, he continued his business career, begun in 1967, as a commercial real estate broker and small business owner. In 1994, he was elected to the Alaska State House of Representatives from Anchorage, and was reelected five times. During his legislative career, he chaired the following committees: Special Committee on Oil and Gas (1995-1996), Labor and Commerce (1997-2000), Judiciary (2001-2002), and Rules (2003-2006). He ran unsuccessfully for Alaska State Senate in 2006. He has also been active as a member of several political and governmental councils, assemblies, boards and commissions, as well as participating in numerous community organizations and playing recreational hockey.

Collection description:
The collection consists of the papers of Representative Norman Rokeberg of Anchorage. The collection is divided into four series: real estate files, campaign files, legislative files, and hockey files. The real estate files include information about leases and purchases of buildings in Anchorage, as well as reports by Rokeberg on the commercial real estate market. The campaign files include campaign budgets, fundraising, district maps, advertising and mailers, position papers, speeches, voter statistics, and newsletters from Rokeberg’s political campaigns. The legislative files include financial disclosures, bill files, and legislative accomplishments, as well as subject files relating to natural gas development, utilities, subsistence, the Permanent Fund, and the state budget. The hockey files consist of two folders containing rosters, schedules, notes, and rules pertaining to recreational hockey in Anchorage.
