Biographical note:
Lieutenant Colonel A. Robert Mensing, Jr. was an officer with the U.S. Army Air Crops during World War II. He was a member of the Headquarters Alaska Wing, Air Transport Command. His airplane was lost over the Yukon Territory in February 1943.
Collection description:
The collection consists of two letters written to Bill Schneider, Jr. of Rahway, New Jersey. In the first letter, dated December 23, 1942, Mensing acknowledges the return of signed flight covers and extends season’s greetings to him. In the second, dated May 5, 1943 from Spokane, Washington. In the letter, Mensing’s wife, Lola, acknowledges the return of Schneider’s letters to Lt. Colonel Mensing and explains that her husband’s airplane was lost over the Yukon Territory in February 1943.
