Biographical note:
James F. Vachon, born in 1937, was from Fort Wayne, Indiana. He enlisted in the U. S. Army in 1955 and trained as a carpenter at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. In 1956, Vachon was stationed at Elmendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage as a member of Company C, 813th Engineer Battalion (Heavy Construction). He left Alaska in June 1957 and his term of service ended in January 1958.
Collection description:
The collection consists of various papers related to James F. Vachon’s service in the U. S. Army from 1955 to 1958. The collection contains: a copy of Vachon’s orders from the 813th Engineer Battalion (October 15, 1957); a certificate of training for completion of a course in general carpentry given at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri (October 28, 1955); four different leave forms (1956-1957); a weapons registration card; two issue slips for supplies; two passes; two meal cards; an immunization certificate and immunization register; two unidentified black and white personal photographs; two 6th Armored Corps shoulder patches; and various miscellaneous tickets, notes, and receipts.
