Collection summary: Photograph album of a Mexican-American serviceman who was stationed at Fort Richardson during World War II.

Biographical note:
Nicandro Mancha was born in Mexico in 1922. He enlisted in the U. S. Army at Fort Sam Houston, Texas on November 10, 1942 and trained at Camp Callan near San Diego, California.  Mancha served at Fort Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska in 1943. Nicandro Mancha died in Hazel Crest, Illinois in 1992.

Collection description:
The collection consists of photographs and other materials from the 1942-1943 photograph album of U. S. Army soldier Nicandro Mancha. The collection contains 61 snapshots taken and collected by Mancha, 12 commercial photograph of Alaska, 28 postcards, 4 greeting cards, and an illustrated Alaska airmail postal cover.  There is also a photocopy of the original album.   Subjects of the photographs include Nicandro Mancha and fellow soldiers in California and Alaska, U. S. Army brass band and troops, trains, and Alaskan scenery.  Subjects of the post cards include Camp Callan, Alaska Defense Command, views of Alaska, Mexico, California, Washington state, and Georgia, and cartoons of U. S. Army soldiers by J. R. Wiseman.

Arrangement: Collection materials are arranged by document type. Photographs were reordered by size.
