Biographical note:
John A. Grindrod was from Idaho. He was living near Valdez, Alaska, in the spring of 1950.

Collection description:
The collection consists of a letter and postmarked envelope from John A. Grindrod to friend Juanita Chapman in Burley, Idaho, in 1950. In the letter, dated April 4, 1950, from Valdez, Alaska, Grindrod describes the town and port of Valdez, and states that he has been living near town on a little creek for three weeks and has not found any work. He also invites his friend to come up to Alaska to see him this summer. The envelope was postmarked as received in Burley, Idaho, on April 12, 1950. The stationery of the letter and envelope is illustrated in dark blue and red with an Alaska Native theme, including figures in fur parkas, sleds and dog teams, a kayak, and a seal hunter on the ice.
