Biographical note:
Deloise W. “Bud” Graves was from Cleveland, Ohio. He served in the Detachment Quartermaster Section, Alaska Department, during World War II. Graves was stationed at Fort Lawton in Seattle, Washington (1942), and Adak Army Air Field in the Aleutians (1943-1944). He was married; his wife’s name was Marjorie and their daughter’s name was Marjorie Ann.
Collection description:
The collection consists of Deloise W. Graves’ World War II era photographs. The 295 prints and 69 negatives were taken during the period 1942 to 1945. They are divided into two sections: service photographs and family photographs. The service photographs consist of 176 black and white prints, and 12 black and white negatives. Subjects of the photographs include a railroad trip to the west coast (November 1942); Graves’ stay at Fort Lawton in Seattle Washington (November 1942); and his stationing at Adak Army Air Field in the Aleutians (1943-1944). The photographs primarily depict Graves and fellow soldiers. The family photographs consist of 99 black and white prints, 10 Kodacolor prints, 27 black and white negatives, and 30 color negatives of Deloise Graves and his family and friends during the war. The primary subject of the photographs are his wife Marjorie and their infant daughter Marjorie Ann. Included in the collection with the photographs are a copy of a special order for Graves’ promotion to the rank of corporal, dated July 14, 1944; and a newspaper clipping of an article from the Cleveland Press about World War II era V-Mail babies, featuring photographs of Marjorie and Marjorie Ann Graves, dated April 17, 1963.
