Biographical note:
John William Albright was an enlisted soldier in the Eleventh Air Force of the United States Army Air Force during World War II. He was initially trained at Drew Field, Tampa, Florida. Albright was transferred to Camp Murray, Washington, in preparation for stationing in Alaska. He served at Elmendorf Field on Fort Richardson in Anchorage, and at Adak Army Airfield in the Aleutian Islands.

Collection description:
The collection consists of an album of photographs relating to John W. Albright’s military service during World War II. The collection includes the original buckskin album cover, a xerographic copy of the original photograph album (64 pages), and the original 330 black and white photographs from the album. Subjects of the photographs include: soldiers and barracks at Drew Field; a cross-country train trip from Florida to Washington through St. Louis, Missouri, and St. Paul, Minnesota; Camp Murray; an Alaskan Defense Command USO show, probably at Camp Murray or Fort Lewis, Washington; soldiers, buildings, a runway, and aircraft at Elmendorf Field on Fort Richardson, including the Eleventh Air Force’s NCO club, the Kashim; downtown Anchorage; soldiers, buildings, airfields, aircraft, vehicles, machinery, and scenery at Adak Army Airfield. Specific post buildings pictured on Adak include: Eleventh Air Force Headquarters, Tundra Theatre, Castle Theatre, post exchange (APO 980-1), post office (APO 980), library, chapel, fire department station number 2, and the base censor building. In addition, there are 44 black and white 4 X 5 copy negatives of selected photographs in the collection.

Arrangement: Photographs are in the order they were in the photograph album.
