Biographical note:
Charles F. Unrath was born on March 20, 1918 and died in 1998. Originally from the Philadelphia area, Unrath was a Private First Class in the U.S. Army during World War II. Unrath served with the 861st Signal Service Company in Alaska from December 1942 to December 1944. While in Alaska, he was stationed in Dutch Harbor, Adak, Umnak, and Anchorage.

Collection description:
This collection consists of a diary compiled by Charles Unrath during his service in the US Army during World War II. The diary contains twenty-nine pages of handwritten entries including identification, dates and locations of where Unrath was stationed, addresses, messages from fellow soldiers, and daily entries from a short period during the summer of 1942.
