Organizational history:
The Anchorage Garden Club first began to hold meetings under the auspices of the U. S. Department of Agriculture Extension Service in 1944. The club formally organized and adopted a constitution and by-laws in May 1947. In 1951, the club became affiliated with the Washington State Federation of Garden Clubs and with the National Council of State Garden Clubs. The club’s first annual flower show was held in 1944. Other annual events held by the Anchorage Garden Club include Arbor Day celebrations, wildflower shows, and winter holiday flower shows.

Collection description:
The collection consists of the records and scrapbooks of the Anchorage Garden Club. Included are minutes, financial reports, correspondence, scrapbooks, garden club award applications, flower show records, and subject files. Also included are records of the Business Beautification Leader Committee of 1981, when the club provided assistance to the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce in recognizing business beautification efforts.
