Biographical note:
Joseph Paul Josephson, an Anchorage attorney, served in the Alaska State Legislature in the Senate from 1983 to 1988.

Collection description:
The collection includes Mr. Josephson’s legislative files from approximately 1983 to 1988. It includes subject files, issues files, correspondence, and bill files. Topics include agriculture, insurance, labor matters, the Permanent Fund Dividend, health, education, social services, and many other subjects under legislative consideration. Types of records include correspondence, bill files, speeches, reports, and audiotapes.

Arrangement: The collection is sorted primarily by record type or subject. The files are generally arranged in alphabetical order within those groupings. The content of many of the groupings overlap. For example, the legislative subject files contain bill files and correspondence as well.

Custodial history: The papers were originally held by the Anchorage Public Library and transferred to Archives and Special Collections in 1993.

Acquisition note: A deed of gift was signed by Mr. Josephson in 1993.

Processing information: This preliminary description to the collection was written by Arlene Schmuland in 2011. Publications, grey literature, confidential personnel records and copies of court proceedings were removed in 2015. Many of the publications were moved to the Alaskana collection of the Consortium Library. This collection description is in process: the container list is being expanded to folder level.
