Biographical note:
Ward T. Sims was the Bureau Chief for the Associated Press in Juneau at the time of the 1964 earthquake in Alaska. Following the earthquake, he relayed damage reports and other information from state officials to the Associated Press in Seattle, and he also traveled to various communities to provide additional reports of damage and casualties.

Collection description:
The collection consists of original Associated Press wire copies covering the 1964 earthquake in Alaska. The wire copies cover a period of four days, from late Friday, March 27 to Tuesday, March 31, 1964 and include messages from various stations in Alaska including Juneau, Fairbanks, and Anchorage. There is also a booklet entitled “Earthquake in Alaska,” giving the story of the Associated Press coverage of the Earthquake.
